Pokdarwis Bamdi (Bamdi Tourism Awareness Group) is a community-based tourism organization initiated by the youth of Kayerepop Village, South Misool District, Raja Ampat Regency, with strong support from local leaders and traditional elders. The community was founded from the collective awareness of young people who realized the importance of protecting and developing their village’s natural and cultural heritage. The name “Bamdi” comes from a local expression that reflects the spirit of togetherness, mutual cooperation, and love for the homeland.

Kayerepop Village is blessed with extraordinary natural beauty — towering karst formations, pristine white sandy beaches, lush tropical forests, and crystal-clear waters rich in marine biodiversity. These abundant resources inspired local youth to establish Pokdarwis Bamdi as a platform to manage tourism in a sustainable and community-driven way. With continuous support from village elders and customary institutions, the group aims to develop tourism that benefits the local people while preserving traditional values and environmental balance.

Pokdarwis Bamdi’s main activities include assisting visitors, managing local homestays, preserving marine and coastal environments, and providing community training programs such as tour guiding, handicraft making, and seafood processing. The community also conducts environmental education for children and youth, organizes beach and ocean clean-up actions, and participates in mangrove planting as a concrete expression of their environmental commitment.

Beyond natural attractions, Pokdarwis Bamdi is also dedicated to preserving Misool’s cultural heritage, including traditional dances, music, and local storytelling that form part of the village’s unique identity. Through collaboration between the energy of the youth and the wisdom of community elders, Pokdarwis Bamdi has become a living example of how local initiatives can create positive change. The community strives to make Kayerepop Village a model of sustainable community-based tourism, one that provides economic opportunities, protects the environment, and strengthens the cultural identity of South Misool for future generations.
